I was wondering if I was to change the hood on my dodge to a aftermarket hood if that would quilfie as a modifcation or not? I'm all ready in the modified class and i'm try to stay there and not get moved up to pro. does a rollpan count as a modification? Thanks
I have often wondered myself about changes to different trucks, some trucks that you would think should be in modified are in street and some that look like street are in street zero. Just curious about when is a modification really a modification that counts for judging? I have been judged in the street class but am not sure what I can do to my truck and still stay there? Thanks
What does not make sense? Every event, show, or get together where individuals or groups are competing against each other has to have some sort of rules. I also judge for the International Car Show Association (ISCA) , we receive a new rule "book" at the beginning of the show season that we have to study and familiarize ourselves with, yeah...I said a book. The rules we have for the Jamborees are about two (2) pages long. Deviant what does not make sense, I will clear that up for you. Kent what specific questions do you have, I will answer both of you in this thread or you can write a separate question. My goal is "no confusion with judging", and now that we have this site...there should not be. Write me if you are scratching your head on an item or two, I enjoy it...really.
I have thought about upholstering my door panels because the vinyl paint on the factory panels scratches so easy and I have to keep touching it up. I thought of painting the axles and springs a grey just to change it up, nothing outragous. If these were to put me in modified it might not be that bad just figured I would be out of my league without having major changes! Thanks!
Remember you need to perform three (3) major changes in the interior for the interior to be considered a modification. Your right, the upholstering of your door panels would be a major change, one (1), and you need three (3). If the axles are smoothed, painted black and waxed every weekend that is not a modification. Painting the axles a color not offered by the factory would be a modification. Black is the only color besides bare metal that I have seen used on a stock rolling chassis.
You would not be out of your league without major changes. The top trucks that roll out of the judging lanes in Street Class cannot have major "changes", one (1) is what you are allowed, or they would be in the Modified Class. The trucks that take first place in Street Class are just very, very detailed vehicles. Usually the first place vehicle (Street) has one (1) major modification, the rest is just put together and maintained extremely well. The bottom line is, you have to be happy with your vehicle, if you want to paint something, weld something, upholstering something, do it...you will be happier in the end.
I've got a few questions if you don't mind. I'm not sure if the mods I plan on doing will keep me in Street Class or not, but I am curious what class I would be in. This is about a year away as I am waiting until it is officially paid off, but here is what I plan on doing.
Tearing the truck down to the bare frame. Powder coating the frame, axles and some misc brackets Black. The lift kit, driveshafts, sway bar and some other misc brackets will be powder coated silver. Than parts that cannot be powder coated will either be painted Black or Silver. I was also planning on putting chrome caps over the ends of all the suspension bolts. The transmission and transfer case will be painted Silver. The engine was painted Black from the factory, but I want to paint it Hemi Orange. I'm also going to add wire and hose coverings. I also plan on replacing the hood, installing electric steps and doing some air brushing. The bed already has a bedrug and a tonneau cover. My only plans for the interior is a stereo system upgrade.
The only modification I see is powder coating the suspension components; everything else that you are planning on doing will still be well within our Street Class limitations. That one (1) modification would put you in Street Class.
Thanks for the quick reply. I wasn't sure if the powder coating would've bumped up or not. I plan on doing it anyways, but its nice to know I will still be in Street Class.
