I just recently purchased a Toyota Tacoma and am considering putting some type of lift kit/system on the truck. I like working on cars and am kind of interested in trying to do it myself. I am having trouble finding good stuff online on how to do it. I have a friend who is a very good mechanic but is not to versed in lifting trucks. He is going to help me but I want to know about everything were doing. I found some good articles like this one but want to make sure I study everything.
Does anyone know the best place to go to learn about lifting trucks. Anything you can think of. I really want to find some good information to make sure I get this right. My new truck is my baby. Thanks for all the help.
I want to turn this thing into a monster truck!!!!!!
Let me start by saying welcome to the community. You have chosen a great site to start out on. The membership on here may not be in the millions, but almost every member is very knowledgable of any and all things truck. If you are wanting to get into lifted trucks there is plenty of great information out there. I knew absolutally nothing about trucks when I built mine 8 years ago, but I am so glad I took the time to do it myself. It definately makes your truck much more personal.
I would definately start out reading some of the off-road magazines like 4-Wheel & Off-Road, Four Wheeler, Off-Road. The next thing is to decide what do you want to use your truck for, daily driver, hardcore off-road, all show, etc. A great place to turn to start looking for lifts and accesories is 4 Wheel Parts. Their staff is very helpfull and good at guiding you in the right direction. Also you can sign up for their free magazine, Off-Road Adventures. I did check and they have a retail store in Vegas.
As far as doing the work yourself. I would say as long as you do a little research and get the correct parts and you do have a basic knowledge of cars then you should have no problem installing any lift kit. My only recommendation is to not cheap out on the lift. Make sure before buying any lift kit to read the included parts of the kits. There are some kits that may seem like real bargains, until you figure out all of the extra parts or future upgrades you will have to buy to get the same results as a quality kit. We could go on for days with advice for each and every aspect of lift kits. Start looking into some kits and once you get an idea of what you are looking for, feel free to write on here what you are looking and we can get into specifics.
Good luck and be sure to start posting some pictures when you jump into your project.
Thanks so much for the info. Those are some great tips. I will sure to post picks as I go and when I am done if I get the chance. I look forward to being as helpful as you in this community.
Find a message board/ forum for your brand and make of truck, there should be several. Do a google search. These will provide lots more info than just suspensions, take it all in(alittle at a time). Some you will have to join to use the search tools, etc. Do a search on lift kits/suspension systems. It will proably bring up more info than you can digest in one setting at the computer. Read, read, read. It will be the good, the bad and sometimes ugly truth about different suspension companies. Then after getting an idea of what you think you what, call the suspension company or a distributor for any questions that were not answered during your search. Also ask questions of the people who have do this already on the forums, most really like to help. Since this is not something you have done before avoid mixing and matching components from different manufacturers.
This will only begin to scatch the itch. It's hard to turn off once you get started!
Lifted Trucks are the trucks that are having hauls and also can be identified with the giant wheels of the trucks. The Lifted trucks are available in different forms and are used for different purposes as well. These trucks were first invented to cater the warehouses and to enhance the capacities of storing goods and cargo. Also these trucks are used heavily by the construction industries as they can haul any of the heavy machines or equipments. These Lifted Trucks are also used by the entertaining industries alongwith the monster trucks to crush down the scrap or any of the vehicles.
