I,ve had lifted trucks since i was old enough to drive. recently i have gotten my project truck far enough along that it is driveable but by know means done. Know a secratary of state cop from illinois has revoked my license plates on the truck for being to tall. the kicker is that I have not been driving it, it was sitting in front of a custom interior shop that i trailered it to. He saw it sitting there and revoked them without any tickets or paperwork. CAN THAY DO THAT??? if so is there a loop hole in the law i need help?
Assuming you have not been driving the truck and it was sitting at the time of the incident. I spoke to a Dectective with the state police and a state trooper (who talked with 3 of his buddies). This is wrong and in no way should you just sit back and take this. They all agree the SoS cop was either new or on a power trip.
I would most certainly fight this tooth and nail. The officers that I talked to dont think this has any legs whatsoever !!
Hope that helps!!
It was sitting in the parking lot at the shop and they called to me to tell me what was going on and gave me his card. the kicker is he lives a block away from on the same street. I even went down to talk to him and show him all the pics and plaques from from every truck show and jamboree i've ever been to. i know what the law is and told him that i have bumpers made for it but have not put them on yet, but according to the law it has to be oem bumper in oem location if i do that he will sign off on it and give me my plates back. which is freckin impossable. and i still don't have any paperwork or tickets but a friend ran the plates and they are revoked.
I'd have to check into that.I'm not up to date on your state,I think ya'll have a max bumper height law. Even so,I don't see where he can pull your tags if you were not driving the vehicle. But,South Carolina has a 54" headlight law and a 60" tailight law.Covered my factory lights with custom covers and also my tails.I added Myers Night Saber snow plow lights under the frame up front and put LED trailer tailights in my rear bumper.A cop stopped me and ticketed me for obstructed headlights and tailights and tried to tell me I could not run the snow plow lights on street. I took it court and won as the snow plow lights are DOT legal as are the LED tailights and they are below the state max height.
I just got another phone call from my buddy who is the detective .He called the Captain of the SoS in Sangamon County. He said the only way a SoS cop will pull plates right on the spot is if you have a large number of outstanding violations against you. Even in that cicumstance it is very rare to do that, they usually notify you by mail that your plates have been revoked and license suspended.
Again I hope this helps. I wish the best in getting this squared away!!
i don't have any just got the plates around christmas time after it was painted so i would have them for the shows. i still have the plates, he just did it.
You said in an earlier post there was no paperwork or ticket. First off go to the DMV or Secretary of State and verify he revoked them.If he did there has to be paperwork. If he did find out what it takes to have them reinstated ( where to go,who to talk to, etc.) That will help you figure out your next course of action ( which is how to beat this).
NO!!!they can not do that I have a 03 ram 1500 lifted 9" on 37" IROKS, it sit's 2" over legal hight, In Pa legal is 30" from bottom of bumper to ground, I sit 32", and they never bothered me ever, staties, local cops, ect, The only thing the do bother me about is that my tires stick out past my wheel wells, 2", other then that that cop is an A$$ and should be fired, and sent to work at Burger King...
Wow man that sux sooooooooo bad.I would definitely not just lay down and take it.Poor cop is probably afraid you're gonna run over his boyfriend's Shi-Tzu once you get it finished.LOL Good luck man.
